Arm Lift
Arm Lift Surgery Overview
Many individuals, particularly women, are unhappy when the underside of their upper arms develops sagging, droopy skin. This can happen despite good exercise and fitness. Over time, the skin can lose its normal elasticity. Alternatively, this can happen as a result of massive or rapid weight loss. An arm lift can help. We invite you to discuss this at a consultation at our Carmel plastic surgery office located just north of Indianapolis.
What Is Brachioplasty?
Brachioplasty is the medical term for an arm lift. An arm lift reduces excess skin and underlying fat that occurs between the underarm region and the elbow, reshaping the arm to result in smoother skin with more normal contours. The incision may extend from the underarm to the elbow or be more limited in length. Excess skin and fat are removed. Liposuction may also be utilized to give the upper arm a better contour. The trade-off to an improved arm contour is a resulting scar on the inside portion of the upper arm.
Following surgery, your arms will be wrapped or placed in a compression garment to decrease the swelling, bruising, and some discomfort. Discomfort can be controlled with pain medication. You must avoid lifting or bearing any weight on your arms for several days to weeks. The incisions will heal in 7-14 days. It is recommended that sun exposure also be limited during the healing process.
The results of your arm lift will be long lasting provided you maintain a stable weight and general fitness.
