Confirm Your Plastic Surgeon's Board Certification
Going through reconstructive or plastic surgery can be enough of an anxiety provoking experience without having to worry about the expertise and training of your doctor. All of us at Carmel Cosmetic and Plastic Surgeons want you to be confident of your surgeon's credentials.
I invite you to read further about what it takes to become a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and to learn the importance of making sure your surgeon is Board Certified.
Confirming your surgeon is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, the only plastic surgery board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties, assures you that your surgeon has undergone the rigorous training required and that she has passed the type of exams she needs to successfully pass in order to receive that certification. Board Certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery is the most credible certification a plastic surgeon can achieve.
In order to qualify to take the American Board of Plastic Surgery examinations, your surgeon has not only gone through and graduated from medical school, but has also undergone a vast amount of specialized training in reconstructive and cosmetic surgical procedures. The extent of a board-certified plastic surgeon’s training can span as long as 15-16 years.
Board-certified plastic surgeons are ultimately vetted by their peers through both a written and a 2-day oral board examination process by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Each candidate for board certification is critically evaluated for their fund of knowledge, their ethical standing, and their safe and effective approach to multiple reconstructive and cosmetic challenges.
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the premier professional society of plastic surgeons, requires each and every member is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
In short, the doctor you choose for your plastic surgery should be a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. She should be a Diplomat of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. The surgeon must have hospital affiliations, should work only in accredited ambulatory surgery centers, and use only board certified anesthesiologists.
Rest assured that Dr Grasee and Dr Bergman are both Board Certified Plastic Surgeons by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and members of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. They have privileges at Ascension St Vincent Hospitals and the fully accredited Carmel Ambulatory Surgery Center.
