Breast Reduction Surgery: Changing Lives
Some women have breasts that are too large or are poorly proportioned with the rest of their body. This can cause those women discomfort such as back, neck, or shoulder pain. In addition, it may make them feel self-conscious. It can even make buying clothes difficult. In these cases, breast reduction surgery or reduction mammoplasty, is an option that results in less being so much more!! Many who have undergone reduction mammoplasty have described it as life changing.
When, the breasts are so large that they cause back pain, neck pain, or shoulder pain. This is called symptomatic macromastia. Large breasts may also cause difficulties with skin irritation or infection underneath the breasts.
When the breasts are overly large or poorly proportioned or when the breasts are so large as to cause symptomatic macromastia, breast reduction surgery (also known as reduction mammaplasty) is a good option. When you visit us, we will assess your candidacy for breast reduction surgery. The surgery will remove excess skin and tissue of the breasts in order to achieve a shape that is more proportionate. After breast reduction, the curves of your body should better complement each other.
If the symptoms are severe enough and the proposed amount of tissue to be removed by your surgeon meet your health insurance policy's criteria, breast reduction surgery might be considered medically necessary and be a covered benefit. If the procedure does not meet the criteria for coverage by your insurance, you always have the option to self-pay for the procedure.
During the consultation process with Dr. Grasee or Dr. Bergman, we’ll be able to discuss all of your options with you in more detail. Your needs will differ from the needs of other patients and it is only in person that we can fully assess your needs and figure out how they can be best met.
