This year is a leap year!!!  We get an extra day this year to enjoy in February.

In a leap year, the month of February is one day longer. But why?  The year that we all think of as 365 days is actually 365.24 days. There’s almost an extra quarter day in there. Give or take .01.  So, every four years, all those quarters add up to almost one and we get an extra day. Not a big deal over a handful of years, but in a century, it’s almost a month. If you would let it go a couple centuries, all the seasons would be out of whack. Imagine celebrating Fourth of July in the snow! It’s better we make the correction.

That said ....let's take this opportunity to leap into liposuction this February. Liposuction can be utilized to get rid of stubborn fat deposits and achieve the body contours you desire.

Dr. Grasee or Dr. Bergman will begin your liposuction procedure by making several small incisions in the desired treatment area be it abdomen, hips, back, thighs, arms etc. This allows your surgeon to precisely target the excess fatty tissue. A long, thin, wand-like suction device called a cannula is inserted through the strategically placed incisions. The cannula is gently moved back and forth to loosen fat cells, which are then suctioned out. Once the procedure is finished, the cannula is removed. Sutures are used to close the incisions.  A compresssion garment is then used to minimize swelling.

Liposuction successfully removes unwanted fat deposits, although it shouldn't be utilized as a substitution for weight loss. Ideally, it is utilized to enhance the body contour by removing fatty areas unresponsive to diet and exercise.

If you have been successful in acheiving significant weight loss, it should be noted liposuction by itself will not address sagging skin that may result from losing a large amount of weight. Generally, liposuction is only recommended after significant weight loss in combination with other body contouring procedures. Surgical options to address sagging skin include abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), arm lifts, breast lifts, and thigh lifts
