Getting Beach Ready? Consider Abdominoplasty
Many of us desire a stomach that we don't have to camouflage by loose clothing.....in other words, we would like an abdomen that we would be proud to show off in a swimsuit on the beach. Unfortunately, aging, heredity, pregnancy, surgery, and weight fluctuations can significantly impact the appearance of the abdominal region. Even if you are committed to exercise and a balanced diet, you might experience abdominal wall laxity that an exercise regimen alone can not address.
We can help you achieve your goal of a flatter and tighter abdomen with an abominoplasty or commonly known as a tummy tuck. We invite you to visit us to discuss this at our Carmel practice located just north of Indianapolis.
You may be asking yourself what does an abdominopalsty entail? An abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, removes excess skin and fat from the abdomen to help you achieve the flat and toned stomach you desire. Additionally, the procedure actually tightens the abdominal wall musculature. The procedure can correct one or more of the following conditions:
- Localized fat
- Loose skin and tissue
- Weakened abdominal muscles
A tummy tuck can focus on the center of the abdomen or address the abdominal region between the ribs and hips, through the sides, and to the back.
A full tummy tuck requires a horizontally-oriented incision at the pubic hairline. The length of the incision generally will extend from hip to hip. A second incision around the navel will be necessary to remove excess skin in the upper abdomen. Once the abdominal skin is lifted from the pubis to the xiphoid process (the end of the sternum or breast bone), the underlying weakened abdominal muscles are repaired. The skin is then re-draped, a new opening for the bully button is created and the excess skin is excised.
