Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Breast Cancer Awareness Month
What is Breast Cancer Awareness Month?
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The goal of Breast Cancer Awareness Month is to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, and cure. This month is also a prime opportunity to remind women to be breast aware for earlier detection of breast cancer. This includes monthly self breast examination, yearly breast examination by your physician, and yearly mammogram for women over 40. Earlier mammographic evaluation may be indicated and recommended by your primary care physician based on family history of breast cancer and other specific risk factors.
Carmel Cosmetic and Plastic Surgeons and Breast Reconstruction
As a part of their plastic and reconstructive practice, Dr Grasee and Dr.Bergman both perform breast reconstruction. Of course, not every woman facing a mastectomy feels the need for reconstruction, but for many women it is an important next step in their recovery and overall healing. Whether a woman decides to have breast reconstruction will depend on her medical condition, general health, lifestyle, emotional state and breast size and shape. For many women faced with breast cancer, the support and perspective of not only their breast and reconstructive surgeons, but of their family, friends, and breast cancer support group is beneficial.
Go Pink
At Carmel Cosmetic and Plastic Surgeons, we have many patients that are breast cancer survivors. In honor of these patients and breast cancer survivors nationwide, we would encourage you to Go Pink this October.
